Cradle Continues Strengthening Technopreneur Ecosystem

Briefing and training sessions, and participation in industry events key to reaching and funding more entrepreneurs to grow national innovation ecosystem

Kuala Lumpur, 7 October 2011 – Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd, a commercialisation grant provider under the purview of the Ministry of Finance, has seen a steady inflow of quality applicants this year as it continues with its successful industry and technopreneur outreach strategy via the Info Talks and Application Clinics that Cradle runs on a regular basis, both independently and in collaboration with other organisations, as well as actively appearing in speaking slots at industry events.

“To date, Cradle has approved 458 CIP Catalyst and 52 CIP 500 grants. Cradle’s grant recipients have achived a 55% commercialisation rate for their innovations, the highest in Malaysia and one of the highest worldwide. This augurs well for our ultimate goal to develop a world class technopreneurship ecosystem in this country and help transform our national economy into a high-income innovation economy by eveloping the potential of our home-grown technopreneurs to a global level.” said Nazrin Hassan, Chief Executive Officer of Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd.

“Cradle’s unceasing push to reach out to more budding technopreneurs and to educate them on the funding opportunities open to them has contributed a lot towards creating greater awareness amongst entrepreneurs, and generating a flow of high-quality applicants for Cradle’s grants. Recently, we have also stepped up our involvement in the technopreneurs life cycle by launching the Coach And Grow Programme (CGP) in July. This entrepreneur training programme is an important initiative driven by the private sector to strengthen the technopreneurship ecosystem by giving entreprenuers optimum skills to enhance their potential to achieve success. Our holistic approach approach is characterised by the all-encompassing scope of the CGP, from the pre-commercalisation stage to the pre-IPO stage,” Nazrin added

“The introducton to Cradle’s grants that I received has been really beneficial. Not that many people are aware about grants at the grassroots level. I’m really glad that my friend recommended that I attend this talk, and I will certainly inform others about Cradle,” said Fazilah Othman, Managing Director of healthcare technology company Mobecomm Technologies Sdn Bhd, who attended one of the Info Talk sessions.

Cradle’s Info Talks and Application Clinics are held every month and announced via emails to partners, while reports of the activities posted on Facebook after the sessions. The info Talks introduce the Cradle Investment Programme to the attendees, while the Application Clinic, often held a week later, offer in-depth information on contemplating the applications forms for the cip Catalyst. U-CIP Catalyst and CIP500 grants, as well as one-on-one consultation sessions for interested applicants. Meanwhile, speaking slots by Cradle’s personnel at industry and technopreneurship events are also announced on Facebook and via email, besides also separately publicised by the event organisers themselves.
